What Is the Spray Mop and How It Works?
Let’s start from a premise: the broom in question falls into the category of the floor- cleaning mop, and specifically belongs to the type of flat and rectangular mops.
Only that, unlike the classic models, it combines a very important advantage: the cleaning of the floors by spraying the water.
In summary, it is able to “spray” the floor by spraying liquid on it (which can be plain water or a mix with the detergent). How does this system work? It is really easy to understand, and the credit goes to its structure.

The structure sees the presence of a rectangular head with an ultra-thin fiber pad, just like in the professional flat-type mop.
The cloth attaches to the base of the head through a series of velcro strips, or with a clip system, and usually has two faces: one in microfibre for washing floors, and one in microfleece, for capturing dust, for dry cleaning or polishing.
Then there is the handle, often telescopic and therefore extendable or shortened at will. On the handle, there is a bottle-shaped tank, which you can fill with water or with a mix of water and detergent (or any other cleaning product).
Near the handle, however, you will find a trigger: by pressing it, you will activate the mechanism that allows the spray broom to spray the liquid contained in the bottle on the floor, atomizing it.
For the record: the spray of water spray comes out of a special nozzle or hole, generally located on the lower part of the tank, or close to the cleaning head.
How to Choose the Spray Mop?
The spray mop models are almost all identical, so there are no particular factors to distinguish. However, it is still worth mentioning which are the elements that I personally consider fundamental for the purchase of a good product.
- Telescopic Handle: the extendable or shortened handle is perfect for adapting its length to your height, and to avoid overloading the back and lumbar. Keep an eye on the quality of aluminum, which ensures solidity, strength, and durability of the stick, and on the presence of an ergonomic handle!
- Cleaning Head with Joint: the 360-degree joint allows you to fold the broom and pass it easily even under the furniture or bed, or to reach difficult corners.
- Microfiber Cloth: its presence is essential, and I will explain to you shortly why.
- Accessories: some products include a scrubber brush for cleaning and wringing the cloth and one or more replacement pads. The scraper is also useful for removing the most difficult dirt deposits from the floor!
Advantages of The Microfiber Pad
I already told you about it in my article on microfibre mop, but here I think that a targeted study is important. The microfibre pad can be of two types: double-sided or single-sided.
- Double-Sided Cloth: you can use the microfleece surface to catch the dust that is on the floor. You can then turn it over and take advantage of the microfiber side, designed for washing and absorbing and retaining water.
- Single-Sided Cloth: in some models of spray mop we find two distinct and separate pads. One is designed for capturing dust, while the other is for washing the floor. In any case, a simple microfiber pad is enough to perform both functions very well.
I would like to repeat that the presence of 2 different pads is not necessary at all: it can be an extra profit, but it is not an obligation.
The ultra-thin fibers, made of polyamide and polyester, are perfect for both capturing specks of dust and for retaining and absorbing liquids. Secondly, a pad of this type is also excellent for washing greasy dirt, and for complete sanitation!
Spray Mop and Parquet Washing
We all know how difficult it is to clean delicate floors, and fortunately, the market offers us specific options, for example for wood. This scrubber broom with the tank is rightfully included in the list of the best mop for parquet because it has perfect characteristics for this type of flooring.
First of all, the ultra-thin fibers are very gentle: even if they generate friction, they are particularly soft and do not risk scratching the wood.
Furthermore, as you well know, parquet fears humidity and any type of liquid, so washing it with a canonical cotton mop would cause a probable accumulation of water on the floor. The microfiber, on the other hand, quickly absorbs liquids and manages to retain them much longer.
So why should you use a spray mop and not any other ultra-thin fiber tool, such as the rotating mop? Because the sprinkler system allows you to dose with extreme precision the quantity of water to be poured on the floor. In other words, spraying reduces the liquid to the bare minimum, thus avoiding dangerous accumulations of water on the parquet!
Better Water or Water and Detergent?
The presence of the tank for liquids gives you the opportunity to also use a solution of water and detergent, but you must be careful, especially when using the spray mop on delicate floors.
In most cases, simple microfibre is enough to ensure perfect cleaning and deep hygiene, but if you decide to “increase the load”, avoid using acidic or industrial products on the wood.
Rather, you should use a specific parquet cleaner. Conversely, for normal floors, you can use products like Lisoform or bleach without problems.

At this point, you should have already understood all the great advantages of the spray mop, but I want to underline them once again, and add some other interesting information!
