The first aspect to consider when choosing an iron is linked both to the frequency of use and to the number of clothes, towels and sheets that you usually find yourself having to iron. The higher the load and rate of the operation, the more critical it will be to have an iron capable of guaranteeing long autonomy and comfort of use.
From this point of view, the boiler is a factor that cannot be ignored and, in case you often have mountains of clothes to iron, it is advisable to opt for a model that has it outside.
These irons have a much larger tank which prolongs the autonomy of use of the appliance compared to those that have incorporated it. In contrast, the latter boasts a very small footprint, especially when you have to store them after use. Models with an external boiler take up much more space.
There is also a third alternative represented by dry irons, which work without using steam. This type of product has reduced weight and dimensions and represents an option to be taken into account if you need a portable model, for example, to be packed before leaving for holidays.
For those who always have many clothes to iron, especially bulky ones, such as B & Bs and small hospitality businesses, it may be convenient to find your way around an ironing press.
The Plate Is Essential
The material with which the plate is made is of great importance. On the other hand, it is the element that is in contact with the fabric, and that determines the smoothness of the iron and the goodness of the result.
This element can be made of stainless steel, satin or enameled aluminum, or Teflon. Each of these has different characteristics of friction, sale price, and resistance but all are able to conduct heat in an optimal way, avoiding that it also spreads to the rest of the body of the iron board. The steel and Teflon plates tend to heat uniformly while in the aluminum ones the heat is concentrated more in the tip.
