Buyer Guide to Choose the Best Led Bulbs
Hot, Cold or Natural?
Before buying a light bulb, you need to understand what type of light the environment needs. There are several models on the market, some in warm light and others in the cold light. The former is ideal for lighting a relaxing environment, given that the light produced will not illuminate the room too intrusively.
The warm light is suitable for a living room or a lamp to be kept on while watching television or having dinner with friends or perhaps with a person to conquer.
Cold light bulbs, on the other hand, are suitable for completely illuminating an environment, therefore a study where you have to read documents or work on the computer without stressing the eyes.
The kitchen can be a place to be illuminated in cold light since you will have to be careful what you put in the pot or maybe read a recipe. There are also light bulbs that emit natural light, let’s say a middle ground between warm and cold, ideal for a room or maybe for a showcase under construction.
Energy Saving
LED bulbs are proposed as a valid alternative to incandescent ones, both for the quality of the light and for the savings. Like all electrical products, light bulbs also have an energy class, so it is advisable to take into account how long they will have to be kept on.
Those who have a shop or business with shop windows should opt for bulbs of energy class A + or higher, so as not to have the classic blow at the end of the month.
In reality, these can also come in handy in an apartment, especially in the winter months when the dark hours increase. If you stay out of the office all day, standard class B or A bulbs may also work.
Duration and Form
Although the price of the bulbs is quite low, this does not mean that you have to buy them continuously due to the low resistance. It is essential to check how many hours can last and for how many cycles, so you will not have to buy mountains of bulbs and replace them every time they burn out.
Typically, a good bulb should last 15,000 hours per 100,000 cycles, so you can use it for a long time without worrying about replacing it. In addition to the durability, it is also worth checking the shape of the bulb, as some have unique designs that are not always useful for lighting purposes.
There are models with the lower part wrapped in a plastic layer that could hinder the correct propagation of light. Let’s now pass to the review of the various products presented in our ranking.
High-Efficiency Technology
Although LED technology dates back to the early 1960s, mass production of the relative bulbs has only started relatively recently; however, they have now become widely used due to their excellent characteristics. The main problem of lighting, from the domestic to the industrial field, has always been that of high electricity consumption.
Over the years, therefore, various technologies have been researched and developed to improve the efficiency of the bulbs, and the first energy-saving models have represented a step forward in this direction.
Starting in the 2000s, LED technology, which until then had only managed to produce coloured light-emitting diodes, was able to develop the first white light-emitting diodes. The advantage introduced by LED technology is based precisely on these diodes, which emit light through the passage of current through semiconductor materials.
Class A++ Bulbs
The first added value offered by LED bulbs is the reduced energy consumption; the emission diodes, in fact, with the same light intensity, consume a much lower quantity of electricity. To obtain the same intensity of light produced by a 100 Watt incandescent bulb, just to give an example, just a LED bulb with about 11 Watt power.
The LED bulb produced by the Philips company is a 7 Watt model but generates the brightness of a 60 Watt incandescent bulb. Consequently, it falls into the energy efficiency class A ++. These bulbs provide great light for reading.
By mounting three Philips LED bulbs in the chandelier of a living room or kitchen, therefore, you will obtain a luminous intensity of 180 Watts, equivalent to more than 2,400 lumens, but with a consumption of only 21 Watts.
High Quality and Durability
The additional advantage of LED bulbs is the extreme durability of the electronic components and materials, this aspect, however, in practice, largely depends on the type of product and the economic range to which it belongs.
High-quality ones, such as the Philips LED Classic, have a decidedly high cost but offer the maximum yield in terms of duration and quality of the materials and assembly.
The cheapest ones, on the other hand, tend to be made with mediocre, if not poor, quality materials and tend to generate annoying flicker and have a short duration.
How to Use the Led Bulb
Choosing to use a LED light bulb, as is now known, allows you to save a few euros on your electricity bill. But which one to choose according to your needs? Let’s try to clarify this guide by evaluating the characteristics and prices of the many models on the market.
Which Light Is Needed
First of all, the first thing to keep in mind when going to buy a led bulb is what type of environment it will illuminate. These objects are divided into two types: warm and cold light.
The first bulbs are indicated for places such as living rooms or bedrooms, where they can be installed in lamps to be kept active while watching TV, or in the chandelier that illuminates the area where the table is positioned where you usually have dinner with friends and relatives.
Cold light bulbs are ideal for places where total lighting is needed, perhaps for many hours a day. Among these, for example, are the studies, where cold light also helps to read various documents and use the PC.
The kitchen is undoubtedly another place that should be illuminated with cold light LEDs, since having good lighting is useful for when cooking or for all the other operations that are usually done in this space of the house.
Duration and Attack
Like regular incandescent bulbs, even the LED ones differ from each other in the type of attack and the power expressed in watts. For the latter, it will not be impossible to see on the box a wattage of that LED corresponding to an incandescent model.
A led bulb has a life cycle which is measured in how many times it can be turned on. Furthermore, since there are bulbs that are never or rarely turned off, the duration is also indicated. In general, a good LED bulb has an ignition cycle of at least 100,000, while the duration hours are around 15,000.
