How the Different Models of Nail Brushes Differ?
The various types of nail brushes can be differentiated from each other in the following aspects:
- Size: on the market, there are brushes of many different sizes. The size of a brush is related to that of the bristles and is measured on a scale that starts from 2 (the smallest Brush) up to 20 (the largest)
- Composition of The Bristles: the bristles of a brush can be in natural hair or synthetic hair. There are also brushes with mixed composition bristles (both natural and artificial). In general, a brush with completely natural bristles is recognized by the fact that it has a darker tip than the rest of the

- Shape: the bristles of a brush can have three forms: round, oval, or square. The so-called “ferrule determines the way,” i.e., the small metal structure that holds the bristles tied
- The density of The Brush: the various types of the Brush also differ in their frequency, that is, in the number of hairs present. The higher the frequency, the stiffer the Brush will be. Brushes with a few bristles are therefore the most flexible ones
- Material and Length of The Handle: there are brushes with a handle made of metal, wood, or plastic. The length of the handle also varies from Brush to brush. These may seem minor differences, but in reality, they are important because they influence the ease or otherwise in handling the instrument.
Which Brush to Choose for Gel Reconstruction?
Both natural and synthetic brushes are suitable for gel reconstruction: the choice, in this case, is at personal discretion, depending on how you feel better.
The important thing is that it is a small brush (ideally with size from 3 to 6) because it is more suitable for applying the right amount of gel well and evenly, without letting it drip onto the skin around the nail. In addition to being small, it should have an oval and flat shape.
The Most Suitable Brushes for Acrylic Reconstruction
For an acrylic reconstruction, a natural brush is indicated because compared to the synthetic one, it is more resistant to the solvents contained in the monomer liquid. The best for this type of treatment is probably the Kolinsky brush in marten hair (an animal similar to the weasel), pointed and with a slightly tapered shape.
When choosing, you must also consider the size of the Brush well, which will determine the amount of resin retained and, therefore, the size of the ball to be applied to the nail.
Many recommend starting with a fairly small brush (size between 6 and 10), although this does not always prove to be a winning choice: a small brush will form a small ball of resin, with the result that it will take longer to carry out the reconstruction because it will be necessary to recreate several balls.
And, especially if you do not have much experience with this technique, there is a risk that the reconstruction will not go well and that product protrusions will form. Instead, by using a wider brush, it is possible to form a single resin ball to rebuild the entire nail.
Nail Art Brushes
For nail art, it is essential to have a large variety of brushes, different in size and shape, to be able to make the various decorations as precisely as possible. In general, the brushes with long and medium-long bristles are perfect for creating lines and geometric decorations or for floral decorations that require large movements, such as flowers with petals and fairly large leaves.
Those with short bristles, on the other hand, are fine for decorative micro-details (if the Brush has a transversal cut) and also for three-dimensional decorations (in this case, a square-cut brush is better).
To get more specific, let ‘s see the most useful types of brushes for nail art:
- Base Brush (base Nail Brush): it is a flat brush available in different sizes. It is used to create the base of nail art or to create large spots of color
- Fan Brush (fan Nail Brush): with soft bristles, it allows you to apply decorations such as micro-beads or glitter easily. And also, once the application is complete, to eliminate any excess
- Long Tip Brush (stripes Nail Brush): due to its pointed shape, it is ideal for creating clean and precise strokes, such as modular lines and waves
- Crooked Brush (medium Bent Nail Brush): this type of Brush has the advantage of having a very comfortable handle. Its particular folded shape does not require you to bend your wrist during use. It is mostly needed to create oval-shaped decorations and designs
- Dotting Tool: a dotting tool is a handy tool for nail art, even if it is not a brush in the literal sense of the term. In fact, instead of the bristles, it has a small metal sphere that is used to create dots, polka dots, and particular details in a perfect and precise way. Dotting tools with tips of various sizes are available, so you can choose the one that best suits the effect you want to achieve.
