Buyer Guide to Choose Rii Keyboard
To choose the wireless keyboard that suits your personal needs, you need to pay attention to some factors. Don’t be afraid, and it’s very simple, but without knowing the basic definitions that belong to this category of product.
You don’t go anywhere, and you risk buying a product that does not meet your expectations or, worse, not compatible with the system to which it is you want to match.
Wireless Keyboard
I bet you have often heard of layouts and the fact that keyboards (obviously also those with cable) can have different layouts.
The layout, if I am not yet aware of it, is the arrangement of the keys on the keyboard: we use the scheme called QWERTY (in which the first letters of the keyboard, starting from the top left corner, are precisely QWERTY ).
There are, however, also layouts such as the German QWERTZ and the French AZERTY. Before buying a keyboard, make sure it has the layout you want.
Typing on a keyboard quickly requires a good knowledge of the layout of the keyboard, and it is obviously a matter of habit. If you don’t want to learn typing on your computer again, choose a model with a layout, you know.
Dimensions
The keyboards do not all have the same dimensions. There are the standard ones (or full size ) that have the same dimensions that we find on most notebooks or on the keyboards of desktop PCs, and then there are mini keyboards (about 2/3 of the standard ones) intended mainly for use with portable devices.
The choice of the size of your next keyboard is absolutely personal and linked to the device you intend to use it with. Specifically, the tablets can have specific keyboard models that can fit in the device itself.
While the models for smartphones and Smart TVs are usually even smaller because they are designed to be maintained during use, and not supported.
Gaming and Mechanical Keyboards
The gaming keyboards are keyboards aimed at gamers, so with features that serve to meet their specific needs. They are often characterized by a design that is anything but sober and for the presence of RGB backlighting (therefore, with a large number of colors).
But it is not only an aesthetic question. Gaming keyboards must, in fact, enjoy impeccable reliability with the pressure of multiple keys, as well as obviously at great speed.
The aspects to consider are key rollover, which represents the number of keys that you can press simultaneously expecting a response from the keyboard; anti-ghosting.
A technology to avoid pressing a “ghost” button when pressing two or more different buttons; polling rate, which is the time interval between pressing a key and the next to be recognized.
The keyboards that usually excel in these features are the mechanical keyboards, which for some time, have been the favorite of the most demanding gamers.
The electronics of these keyboards can manage the keys (called switches) individually (unlike the membrane ones) and are faster and more reliable in pressing.
But there are also disadvantages: the most extreme switches are also particularly noisy and not suitable for writing long texts in silent environments.
Connectivity
Is the question Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? There isn’t actually much choice in the wireless keyboard connectivity solution, but this decision is crucial.
Wireless keyboards can take advantage of these two different technologies to communicate with the computer: Bluetooth or 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, both with a range of about 10 meters.
The keyboard-based on Bluetooth technology does not require external receivers to work (as long as your computer has integrated Bluetooth) and is compatible with a wide range of devices, such as smartphones and tablets.
The keyboards based on the 2.4GHz wireless technology using the owner’s USB receivers that can limit their compatibility with devices such as smartphones, tablets, and Smart TV. They are also more prone to interference with other devices that use the 2.4GHz band.
In general, I suggest you tend towards Bluetooth technology, but if you intend to use your next keyboard only with the PC and you have no problems in “monopolizing” a USB port only for the receiver, also consider purchasing Wi-Fi keyboards. 2.4GHz Fi.
Trackpad and Programmable Keys
The keyboard doesn’t just contain keys for typing. Although there is a standard that establishes the layout of the main keys and dictates the presence of other essential keys, some keyboards also have different input systems integrated into the same chassis. What you find most commonly is the trackpad.
In an integrated trackpad (like the one found on notebooks), it takes the place of the mouse, especially with ultra-portable systems or with Smart TVs.
It is a device for pointing a less comfortable mouse, but that can be used in many different circumstances while maintaining the same functionality. You can also find the keys for multimedia control (such as Play, Pause, and others), for music and videos.
The larger keyboards also have the numeric keypad or even some programmable keys, to which you can assign various functions (they are typically chosen by the gamers for the possibility of setting “Macro” in order to perform a series of different actions with a single interaction). Choose the one that includes the keys and functions you need.
Other Characteristics
There are still other factors to know before you fall for the choice of your new wireless keyboard:
The Backlight Is One of These: if you work in the evening or in any case, you often find yourself using your system in the dark, buy a keyboard equipped with a backlight for keys.
Also, Important Is the Power Supply Which, Speaking of Wireless Keyboards, always takes place via battery. You can find the classic AA / AAA batteries, or they can have built-in rechargeable batteries, such as those of mobile phones, which are charged via USB cable.
In my personal opinion, keyboards with integrated battery are more comfortable (as there is no risk of not being able to use them due to the lack of AA / AAA batteries), but these are assessments to be made according to your needs.
Finally, always consider ergonomics, especially if you intend to write for a long time with your new keyboard. There are models that make ergonomics their strong point. They are designed to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome and other joint problems.
They are characterized by a very particular (wavy) shape and by a different arrangement of the keys from that of the standard keyboards. If you suffer from joint problems or work for many hours on the computer, carefully consider buying it.
