Buying Guide to Select the Best Ripstick
Skateboard or Longboard?
Skateboarding is a sport born decades ago in America, but skates quickly became the symbol of a style and a way of being, spreading from the streets of California all over the world.
But which one to choose among the many on the market? First of all, a distinction must be made between skateboards and longboards, often confused by beginners because they look alike, but a slightly more expert eye can immediately notice the differences.
As the name suggests, the longboard is longer, it also has much wider wheels than a skateboard, and trucks also have different sizes.
These tricks that seem of little consequence actually have a noticeable effect on the possible uses: the skateboard is much lighter, more comfortable to handle. It lends itself better to the execution of the evolutions. On the other hand, it is less suitable for long journeys because it is less stable and also less rapid.
The longboard, on the other hand, is more comfortable and is built precisely to cushion the roughness of the asphalt better; less suitable for freestyle, it does not, however, prevent an excellent skater from performing stunts.
An attractive alternative is a cruiser, halfway between these two models because it is bigger than the skate. However, it is still easy to handle and light: ideal for moving from one point to another in the city in a fun, responsive, and fluid way. Look at the recommended models below: there is one for all needs.
Electric
Having become a real means of locomotion, skateboarding needs a specific physical effort, which can be considerable if the distance traveled is considerable.
For those who love maximum comfort, the best skate brand is the one that makes models generally defined as “electric,” but that runs on batteries. The hoverboard is the advanced version of a skateboard.
In the beginning, they were huge and heavy boards because the batteries had considerable dimensions, but today, with the advent of lithium ones, weight and volume have been incredibly reduced.
The user is equipped with a wireless remote control with various functions, in particular, the brake and the possibility of adjusting the speed. Usually, it is possible to download a dedicated application to use your smartphone as a controller in order to carry only one device.
Performance varies from model to model; what should never be missing is the luminous indication that indicates the low battery.
Abec
The skateboard is composed of a few components: board, truck, and wheels. Two bearings are placed inside each wheel, which is identified according to the abbreviation ABEC. It is often mentioned in the manufacturer’s indications, but what does it actually mean?
The Annular Bearing Engineering Committee (acronym ABEC) is an association of American engineers who developed a system for the classification of precision bearings.
The measurement scale is only odd and ranges from 1 to 11 (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11). Bearings with a more significant number are more efficient because they better meet precision standards.
Those who compare prices know that an ABEC 11 bearing has a very different value from an ABEC 3. What changes, in addition to the price, is the smoothness: with the same thrust, a more sliding bearing because more precise allows you to travel a greater distance…
How to Use a Ripstick?
Skateboarding has roots that are quite distant in time, of course, we are not talking about something ancient but certainly old yes, albeit still current. The hands of time must be brought back to the mid-1940s to meet the first table with wheels.
Because at the bottom of this it is a simple “toy” which then became much more: a sports tool, for some even a means of transport and, although we are still far from the skateboard used by Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox in “Back to the Future,” the one who didn’t need wheels, skateboarding has evolved a lot.
What Is Needed
We want to start from ABC, even if we run the risk of falling into the banal and aware that kids may not follow the following, which we think they should do.
When you decide to buy a skateboard, you should also get a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads because the fall is always around the corner, even if you don’t try stunts.
Choose the Table
Those who want to try their hand at skateboarding can choose between different types of boards, from those that are little more than toys to those for professionals. It is clear that a beginner shouldn’t invest too much money.
The so-called longboard is a relatively large, heavy board with metal axles on which the more extended wheels are mounted. It is divided into three types: the codon, the twin tip, and the Cruiser.
The latter is more suitable for those who already have some experience. Then there are the classic skateboards that have the standard sizes, therefore more contained than a longboard.
Shoes and clothing
To skate, it is advisable to wear a suitable pair of shoes which must-have characteristics such as a flat sole which guarantees a good grip on the board.
Clothing must be comfortable. Maybe when you practice use something old because when you fall – and you can bet it will happen – at least you will avoid breaking new pants.
