Things to Consider Before Buying Aerobic Steppers
How to Use the Stepper at Home
The stepper is a space-saving, easy-to-use, and inexpensive fitness machine, which is why it is great for training at home. It helps to firm up the body and to lose weight, especially the oblique stepper, which in addition to the movement from the top, also has a horizontal twist.
Like all tools, it must be used in the right way to benefit and not harm. Before training with the stepper, don’t forget to warm up, which should last at least five minutes. Then start the actual training with a progressive rhythm and monitoring the effort.
At the end of the workout, it is essential to do some stretching exercises to relax the muscles and regulate the heart rate.
To see results, you should do at least 60 minutes of steps per week, which you can start in 10 minutes a day if you train daily and do other exercises as well, 20/30 minutes a day if you do two or three times a week, 60 minutes consecutive if you use the step only once a week.
How to Choose the Best Stepper
We have seen which are the best steppers currently on the market, and now it is essential to understand how to choose the one that best suits your needs among all. First of all, you need to select the type of stepper, which can be mini, with handlebars and oblique.
Don’t forget to check the maximum capacity of the stepper and to evaluate the strength of the structure. Other essential factors are the size, the level of effort, and the presence of a computer that monitors training time, a number of steps, calories burned, and other useful parameters.
Let’s See Everything in Detail.
Models
The main stepper models are three:
- Mini Steppers, small and compact, easy to store after use, perfect for home training. They consist only of two pedals, to which elastic bands can be connected to train the arms;
- Stepper with Handlebars, with brakes and high handlebars, to place your hands on during training. They are bulkier than mini steppers, but they give more excellent stability and help to maintain correct posture;
- Oblique/lateral Steppers, which in addition to the classic vertical movement from top to bottom and vice versa, also have lateral and, in some cases, rotary movement. They are excellent for training not only the legs but also the trunk, in particular the oblique abs.
Dimensions
If you want to use the stepper at home and you have little space, you must take into account the size before purchasing. The mini steppers are best for a home workout because cluttering little and after use can be easily stowed away in a closet or under the bed.
If you have enough space, you can also opt for a stepper with handlebars, perhaps foldable, to reduce the size as much as possible.
Maximum Capacity
The maximum range is a significant factor in the choice of the stepper. The apparatus must have sufficient load-bearing capacity to support your weight during training.
Most mini steppers have a maximum capacity of about 100 kg. Still, on the market, there are also steppers with a capacity of 120 kilograms or more, usually more substantial and with handlebars.
Effort Level
For practical training, it is essential to adjust the effort so that it becomes more intense over time. We, therefore, advise you to choose a stepper with manual effort adjustment on several levels.
A Typical Stepper Workout
Before starting the training with the stepper (or with any other tool), a warm-up must not be neglected, a stage necessary to increase the elasticity of the muscles, which should last at least 5 minutes, in addition to those over 50 years old.
This phase must also be progressive, start gently, and then increase the pace, a precaution that will reduce the risk of accidents and also of the useless loss of energy. Furthermore, in this way also the heart rhythm will have the possibility to adapt.
If you are a beginner, the training must be progressive, monitor the effort well, and do not do more than you should, at least not the first few times.
As for the duration of the workouts, in principle, we can suggest a quota of at least 60 minutes per week, to be divided as follows: 10 minutes of exercises for those who train daily, from 20 to 30 minutes for those who do it two or three times a week, 60 minutes for those who use this tool once or twice a week.
After the exercises, do not make the mistake of getting off the stepper and return to your life, take a few more minutes to let the body and heart rate return to a calm condition.
Then stretch gently, slowly. If you do not know how to do the warm-up and relaxation exercises, you can easily find video tutorials online, to be carried out calmly, to avoid cramps and other soreness.
