Buyer Guide to Choose Best Computer Vacuums
Understanding how to choose an excellent portable vacuum cleaner, which gives you peace of mind for a few years, is not always easy. To facilitate you in selecting the best portable vacuum cleaner, we list some of the concepts and features you will need to pay attention to.
Which Type for Which Use?
There are two categories of portable bagless vacuum cleaners based on cyclonic technology. The first includes corded vacuum cleaners, to be powered by connecting them to the standard power socket.
The second, much wider than the first, includes an infinity of wireless models (generally called cordless), therefore with a rechargeable battery. The choice, at first glance, could fall on the latter, considered more comfortable and usable anywhere.
True, but do not exclude a 220 V portable vacuum cleaner a priori because it can boast interesting strengths: first of all, the possibility of vacuuming for as long as you want, without worrying about the remaining autonomy and the time required for subsequent recharging.
The power supply also ensures a considerable suction capacity. Then there is a more sparse category of laptops, unfortunately, composed of very few models, but which is still able to have its say. It is that of power-operated laptops, cordless but not cyclonic, not technologically advanced but still too efficient to be put aside.
With these premises, if portability is your top priority, you will be spoiled for choice in choosing the most suitable cordless portable vacuum cleaner.
Handling and Weight
The name itself says it: a portable vacuum cleaner must be “portable” and therefore, light. They are intended for cleaning surfaces positioned at or near the sides, such as tables, shelves, sideboards, and sofas.
It must lend itself to a loose and casual use that does not tire the arm. This aspect is fundamental, especially if the user who will have to use it every day is a woman or an older adult.
Although manufacturers are cautious not to go beyond a limit weight, keep this feature in mind and aim for lighter models. We have done it, and in the comparison that follows, we offer portable vacuum cleaners that, not weighing more than 1.6 / 1.7 kg, you can also use several times a day without any effort.
Finally, do not forget that portable vacuum cleaners are perfect for cleaning the interior of the car, camper, caravan, boat and van, contexts that require great agility of use.
Suction Power
Suction power is usually the first requirement that is asked of a portable vacuum cleaner, with or without cord. We want it to be powerful and aspire for everything. Unfortunately, this desire has to deal with reality.
Portable vacuum cleaners have small motors – because they must be easy to handle – and, when powered by a rechargeable battery, they must remain in a certain weight.
You have to accept compromises: the first is that portable cordless vacuum cleaners are, on average, more powerful than cordless ones. It’s up to you to choose, also and above all, according to your needs.
If you are interested in removing the crumbs from the kitchen table after lunch and dinner, then a cordless vacuum cleaner is more than enough and suitable for the purpose.
The paradox wants that in these cases an excessive suction power could even be annoying. Together with the crumbs, a particularly powerful vacuum cleaner could suck the tablecloth, especially if made of light fabric such as linen and thin cotton, making operations almost impossible.
Best for Computers and Cars
Evaluate well before buying. If, in addition to the tablecloth, you also want to vacuum the interior of the car, camper, or boat, with a particular eye on the carpet and upholstery, you will undoubtedly need a little more power.
In any case, do not expect the same suction capacity as the more giant vacuum cleaners, those designed for cleaning the floor, especially if you opt for a cordless model. There are many online reviews where users complain of enough power to capture minimal dust, hair, and debris, no more. Even in the car, cleaning will often be superficial.
What Does Cyclonic Vacuum Cleaner Mean?
A bagless portable vacuum cleaner is also cyclonic in most cases. But what does this term reveal? Cyclonic technology, invented for many years, was applied to vacuum cleaners for domestic use in 1984.
The credit goes to James Dyson, founder of the company of the same name, considered today the most advanced in the sector.
The air sucked together with the dirt follows a spiral path inside the vacuum cleaner, forming a real cyclone (vortex). This generates the centrifugal force necessary to separate the solid particles (dust, debris, hair, animal hair, and crumbs) from the air.
Bypassing through the filter releases any minimum residue before being recirculated in the environment as clean air. An excellent portable cyclone vacuum cleaner must operate this division.

Dust Tray and Filter
The capacity of the dust collection drawer is vital in portable vacuum cleaners but not as much as that of vacuum cleaners dedicated to more thorough floors and cleaning.
So don’t be put off by the models with particularly small collectors (0.2 or 0.3 liters) if you are buying a vacuum cleaner to remove, especially the bread crumbs from the table. After eating, it will take you a few seconds to empty it as soon as it is filled.
A vacuum cleaner then tends to fill up with material that is less difficult for the operator to handle than the dirt that you might bring up from the floor.
Conclusion
One aspect you should pay attention to is the possibility of physically detaching the dust compartment from the motor, only in this way, when necessary.
You can immerse it in water and wash it carefully. Some models of portable vacuum cleaners have the drawer that opens by turning, but remaining attached to the motor body.
As for the filter, the best would be to have a HEPA filter because compared to all the others. It is built to retain even the most granular particles.
However, the effectiveness of all the other filters that most often do their job very well should not be underestimated. You will notice it every time you open the dust tray: it will be darker every time.
