The grinder is an electric hand tool (although there are bench models). It is made up of a high-power electric motor connected via reduction gears (if it is an angle grinder) or directly to the motor axis (in the case of straight ones). The disc attaches to the tip of the axle.
The disks are used to determine the activity, given that depending on the chosen disk, we can carry out a particular type of work.
These are very efficient tools, with little energy consumption that will allow you to carry out a large number of tasks, from cutting to filing or cleaning a surface, always using a suitable disc.
What Are the Grinders For?
This is undoubtedly an essential point because defining what a grinder is for will allow you to know what you can use it in your laboratory or at home.
The grinder can be used for a large amount of professional or domestic work, and thanks to the possibility of changing the disc, it offers enormous versatility.
You can cut marble, ceramic, or plasterboard. Generally, you will be able to perform cutting, cleaning, and sanding. Depending on the size of the grinders, you can perform one or the other task.
For example, for demanding jobs, you will need a large model with a powerful engine, while for small DIY jobs, you will need a little or mini.
What Are the Differences Between a Grinder and A Mini Grinder?
There are different types of grinders depending on their size, power, and diameter of the discs. They are distinguished in grinders and mini grinders.
The most common drives for the mini format are those of 115, and 125 mm, and the power of its motors generally ranges from 500 to 800 W.

How and When Do I Have to Change the Grinder Disc?
The grinder disc must be changed when it shows signs of wear due to use. You will also need to replace it if damaged.
Changing the drive is easy, just turn off the machine and place the included key so that the grooves coincide with the holes in the central disc. Then, press the indicated key to lock the axis.
Once the clamping and cutting disc has been loosened, remove it altogether, and insert the new CD. You will have to position it so that the central hole coincides with the axis.
There must be no free space. Place the clamping discover the cutting disc, and proceed to unlock the axis. Use the wrench and turn counterclockwise to tighten.

- Use the locking mechanism, together with the key to loosen the clamping disc.
- Remove the clamping disc altogether.
- Remove the used disc.
- Place the new disc on the axle.
- Place the clamping disc back in place. Check that it is well fitted without free spaces.
- Tighten the disc by turning the key counterclockwise.
- Check that the disc is fully secured in its space.
Is It Possible to Use the Grinder for Sanding? Like?
Grinders are very versatile tools, as they support a large number of discs, including those for sanding.
In these cases, you will need to have a rubber accessory that serves as the basis for these particular smoothing discs to ensure their durability. The sandpaper has different thicknesses and consistencies.
Before you start sanding, you have to fix the piece you want to work with with a vice or another type of tool, so that you can hold the grinder with both hands. You don’t need to exert pressure, just place the machine on the workpiece and move it slowly from one side to the other, leaving the disc to work. You must wear the necessary protections.
Grinder or Hacksaw?
Depending on the work you need to do, you can choose a grinder or a hacksaw, since they are different tools with different functions. The hacksaw differs because the movement of the blade goes from top to bottom. Therefore the tool must be perpendicular to the work surface.
The grinder works instead with the rotation of a disc, in this case by cutting, at high speed. It is essential to take the power of both the hacksaw and the grinder into consideration when choosing between the two to do the job. In the case of hacksaws, some models include dust extractors in the cutting nozzle.
