How to Choose the Best Portable TVs?
If you don’t want to go on reading, however, and you prefer to rely on our purchasing advice to find out which portable TV to buy. You can directly consult the comparative table that compares prices, strengths, and limitations of the most exciting models, classified according to services and the feedback they got from the people who bought them.
Image quality
Image quality is a crucial aspect of a TV, whether it’s a portable model or not. In choosing, therefore, it is undoubtedly one of the parts to be taken into account.
The best brand is not always synonymous with the best video performance, especially as regards portable televisions; the latter are equipped with small screens, the diagonal of which varies from 9 inches of the cheaper models, up to about 15 inches of the more expensive ones.
But regardless of the trademark and the economic level of belonging, the classic screen of a portable TV has technology similar to that of smartphone screens.
So you can find the LED-backlit ones, or the latest TFT, among the medium-low range products, and also the OLEDs in the more expensive range.
Given the size of the diagonal, the maximum screen resolution of a portable TV can vary between 800 x 480 pixels and 1,024 x 600 pixels but, precisely because of the reduced polyclinic, there is less lack of support for high definition.
Performance and Functionality
The performance of portable televisions is directly proportional to the signal reception capacity given by the supplied antenna; quality depends on many factors, such as signal coverage, receiver power, the possible interference of electromagnetic waves in certain areas, and so on.
This type of problem, however, if it arises, can be solved quite easily by replacing the supplied antenna with an amplified one, with a greater reception capacity.
The features offered by a portable TV, however, vary depending on the model and, in addition to the possibility of connecting external storage media.
They can include the DVD player, some of which also support certain video game formats to transform the portable TV into a small console, or directly integrate a memory with numerous arcade games.
Autonomy of Operation
Another fundamental aspect to consider, when choosing a portable TV, is the operating autonomy offered by the battery.
It is true that these devices, in general, are also equipped with cables and adapters for the power supply from the mains and the cigarette lighter socket, however, this does not mean that the working life of the battery is fundamental and, often and willingly, it indicates the limit between a quality product and a poor one.
Some can not stay away from the “lightbox,” others, on the other hand, use it as a sort of babysitter (even if today mom and dad seem to prefer the smartphone) or as a companion.
Even if you don’t watch it because maybe engaged in other chores, the only audio combined with some peeks helps to feel less alone at home.
But when you travel, how do you do it? If you have a portable TV, you are on horseback, and if you think about it, the cute quadruped is also useful for traveling.
The Dimensions
When you go to a store to buy a TV, dimensions are among the features that are taken into account. Now, if you have to watch the game of your favorite team or play video games. A nice 60 inch is everyone’s dream. But here we are talking about portable TVs, so something smaller, handy, is needed. In this case, the ideal size, in our opinion, is about 10 inches.
Also watch out for resolution, because it is always advisable to focus on a model that is at least HD, to enjoy good image rendering.
Tuning
Like all televisions, even portable models, on the first start, must be tuned. To do it is very simple; go to the menu and look for the “channel search” item. Choose the automatic setting and connect it with portable DVD players in no time you will have a nice list of free channels to watch.
Battery
Being portable, the TV is equipped with a battery. Here you should read up on the features well. Try to understand first how many hours of autonomy it ensures and how long a charging cycle lasts.
USB Connector and Memory Card Slot
Many models have a USB connector and also a slot for inserting SD memory cards. They are two critical features because they allow not only to watch what the TV is broadcasting at a given moment but also to watch videos and photos.
You can save your favorite movie on a USB stick or note, on an SD and watch it comfortably while on the road. We suggest focusing on models that offer this possibility because they do not cost much more than those that do not have it.
Its particular design is designed to be waterproof and dustproof, with the screen adjustable so that it can be fixed to the headrests of the front seats and used by the passengers who sit behind.
In addition to receiving TV and FM radio channels, it also acts as a console, thanks to internal memory with 300 classic games from the 1980s, as a DVD player capable of playing the most popular digital audio and video formats.
It integrates a joystick input, a USB input, an SD card reader up to 32 GB, a 3.5 mm AUX input and an AV port to be connected to a TV or projector.
It is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium battery, which offers a continuous operating autonomy of about 5 hours.
