Everything You Need to Know About Psoriasis Body Washes

Hygiene Not to Be Overlooked

The psoriasis is a disease that affects the skin; it is, therefore, evident how to correct hygiene must represent a daily appointment for each patient. And it will benefit not only the external aspect but also self-esteem and interpersonal relationships. So let’s see some simple tips to take care of your hygiene.

Everyday

As obvious as it may seem to remember, it is always good to reiterate it: you cannot and must never give up on personal hygiene, even for a day. And if this applies to everyone, it is even more true for the patient with psoriasis.

The disease can take away enthusiasm, the will to live … The risk of letting go is high, and you have to react!

Wash with Psoriasis

A beautiful bathroom is ideal for starting or ending a day in the best way (it depends on your tastes). Fill the tub with lukewarm water – never boiling – and avoid using a shower gel perhaps bought on offer at the supermarket.

Better a specific soap for dry and delicate skin, which you will get advice from your dermatologist or pharmacist. It may be indicated to break in the bathwater salts rich in substances beneficial for the skin, such as the Dead Sea salts or the Epson salts.

Ten Minutes, No More.

Avoid being soaking for too long, despite being immersed in warm water is very pleasant. Ten minutes is enough, a fair amount of time to keep the skin from getting irritated and itching worse.

Phototherapy/photochemotherapy

Concerning phototherapy, Puva-therapy has shown greater efficacy towards Nb-Uvb phototherapy; however, a systematic review and a critical observational study have shown that it represents a risk factor for the development of Non-melanoma skin cancer (MSC), while at the moment the included studies have not demonstrated this risk in patients treated with Nb-Uvb.

Biotechnological Drugs

The literature reviewed has allowed us better to evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of biotechnological drugs. The observed data showed an excellent efficacy and safety profile of these drugs

. Furthermore, the results show the need to include in an Italian national register all patients who are being treated with biotechnological medications or who are starting systemic therapy for the first time, in order to evaluate their efficacy and safety in the medium-long term.

Finally, there is a lack of direct comparison studies between biotechnological and traditional biotechnological and systemic drugs in order to evaluate the possible superiority of one over another, in terms of efficacy, safety, acceptability and patient compliance.

Dry Well

When leaving the tub or shower, it is a good thing to dry the whole body carefully, in order to prepare it for the possible application of an emollient cream. Always use a soft towel, which should not be rubbed on the body but slightly placed gently.

Face, Hair and Nail Hygiene

Pay particular attention to the cleaning of the most visible areas of the body, those that most frequently come into contact with other people and that put them in emotional difficulty.

Learn also to speak without embarrassment to the staff of a qualified beauty centre that, sensitized on the disease, will be able to provide valuable advice on how to make the manifestations of psoriasis less visible.

Intimate Areas

Another area of the body that requires a specific hygienic approach is the genital one, unfortunately not free from the appearance of psoriatic manifestations. It is essential to consult your dermatologist for advice on particular products to be applied and used carefully in such delicate parts.

Topical treatments

As in the original guideline, the included studies have shown that vitamin D derivatives and corticosteroids are the most effective topical treatments for plaque psoriasis.

There were no significant differences between the two treatments, but their association is superior to the single treatment in terms of efficacy.

New formulations of topical treatments have also been analyzed in the further studies, and among these, the gel containing the preconstituted association of calcipotriol and betamethasone dipropionate has shown the same effectiveness as traditional formulations but allows greater adherence to the treatment.

Which Products to Use?

Cleansing and hydration in case of psoriasis require specific products, to be purchased at the pharmacy. So as not to take risks when choosing soaps and emollient creams, it is always better to follow the advice of your trusted dermatologist or pharmacist.

Beware of buying products online that promise miraculous results using improbable pseudo-natural mixtures. Also, in this case, it is always better to talk about it with your doctor.
