What to Look for Buying Best Binding Machines?
With the binding, the documents acquire official and professionalism, essential requirements for their presentations at work, and at the university.
Take a look at our guide to choose the binding machine that best suits your needs, and you can focus your attention on the aspects that you should consider more carefully. In the ranking below, you will find a review of what are the best models for us on the market. Find out what they are.
Types of Binding
Those who intend to create a dossier with their documents have several options in front of them, but the most used are three. The cheapest way is to use plastic rings.
One or more spines are generally included in the packaging of the binding machine, which is therefore immediately ready for use. However, they have a decidedly affordable price and are available in different colors. A further advantage is the possibility to open the newly created dossier at 360 ° and to insert or remove sheets at any time.
Another solution is that which involves the use of metal rings: slightly more expensive than plastic ones; they guarantee a more professional look to the file and better resistance over time. Also, in this case, it can be opened completely, while it will not be possible to open the document to insert or remove other sheets.
Finally, those who want the best results should opt for a thermal binder. In this case, the rings are not used because the machine produces the heat necessary to dissolve the glue present on the original covers.
In this way, the sheets are glued and, therefore, cannot be removed or added later, but the final result will be more elegant, like a book, also ideal for shipping.
Performance
Compare prices and performances, and you will find that thermal binders have a much higher cost than the others. Of course, the performance is far superior, perfect for professionals. One of the parameters to be considered before buying a binding machine, both thermal and comb, is the number of sheets it can manage.
If you need to bind very full-bodied documents, a 300-sheet binder, for example, may not be enough for your needs, better opt for a model with a larger capacity.
In the case of the thermal ones, there will be an added advantage and, that is, the possibility of binding two or more documents at the same time to finish the job in less time, ideal for those who have to produce many files.
In the case of the combing machine, in addition to the number of sheets that it can bind, it is also necessary to take into account those which it is capable of drilling at the same time; the two do not coincide. A binder that punches a few sheets at a time forces a more prolonged and more tiring job.
Dimensions
Other parameters that you may consider of some importance in your decision are ease of use – often, these machines do not include instructions in Italian – and the quality of the construction materials. But the best brand of binding machines could be for you the one that makes the most compact models, ideal if you have little space available at home or in the office.
Check, in particular, if the model you intend to buy – be it comb or thermal – can be closed to occupy the smallest possible size when not in use.
Each document acquires solidity and character of official and professionalism with the binding.
After analyzing the characteristics that distinguish the best binding machines, we now move on to the comparison between our buying recommendations: these are the best models of 2020 for us. Find out which they are, you could identify what you are looking for without losing anything else time in further research.
Different Types
On the market, it is possible to find different types based on the type of binding that can be made. The most common and cheaper ones are the binding machines that use plastic rings.
In essence, these are spirals inserted inside holes made in the sheets, also allowing the addition of further material at a later time. The only defect of this type of binding is the resistance, much lower than that with metal rings.
This second possibility is slightly more expensive but guarantees a better duration over time, even if the dossier is subjected to intensive use.
Thermal Binding
The last type of binding is thermal. No rings are used but a special glue which, melted by the machine, joins the sheets together. This binding is undoubtedly more expensive and is more suited to a professional area where there is a need to present documents and files perfectly.
If you have never used any of these machines, let’s see together the operation of the most popular binding machines, to help you better understand how to use them.
Bind with spiral
The spiral binding involves several steps, but the first step is certainly to prepare the sheets. First, make sure you have printed and sorted them numerically. Stack them, therefore, and check that there are no imperfections of any kind, such as folds.
To give a more professional touch to the job and offer higher resistance to the sheets, use a couple of cardstock or plastic sheets of the same size that will act as a cover, placing one above and one below the leaves.
Plastic or Metallic
After this preparation, opt for the spiral of your choice, either metallic or plastic. The dimensions must vary according to the number of sheets, so choose carefully to avoid making it impossible to read the bound booklet.
Now insert the spiral in the special compartment of the binding machine. By pressing a lever, the spiral will be opened, thus facilitating the operation of adding the sheets.
Pierce the Sheets
Now proceed with the punching of the same. You can use the side you prefer; however, for easier reading, it is recommended to drill the longer side, taking care not to make the holes too close to the edge.
Our advice is to proceed little by little if you have more than 20 sheets.
Close the Spiral
When you have completed the operation, you can join your sheets again, inserting them carefully in the open spiral. Check that they are all entered exactly and finally lift the lever again to close the spiral. You have thus completed the binding of your documents.
